SHOWER
GENERAL INFORMATION:
Showerheads are one of the major problems with clogging from hard water deposits and using too much water. Most new showerheads onlyu use 2.5 gallons per minute compared to as much as 5 gallons per minute in older heads. Replacing the old head can save as much as $60-$150 on your water bill and energy savings depending whether it is gas or electric. You will save about 1200 gallons per year in the average home.
COUGH, COUGH, I'M ALL CLOGGED UP
If the showerhead is clogged with hard water deposits, you will need to remove the head and soak it in white vinegar overnight. If the holes are clogged badly, you may need to use a strong piece of thin wire and push it through each hole.
CLEANSER FOR SHOWER NOZZLE RESIDUE
The following ingredients will be needed:
1 Cup of white vinegar
1 Teaspoon of lemon juice
1 Cup of very hot water
1 Spray bottle
Place all the ingredients into a small bowl and mix well, then sponge on the showerhead and clean with an old toothbrush.
- Turn off the water supply under the sink or at the main water supply to the house
- Turn bath spigots on to release any water leftover
- Remove the water lines running to the faucets using a crescent wrench
- Use pliers to remove the two plastic nuts holding the faucets on
- Remove the faucets and use a scraper to remove any residue on the sink area
- Roll some plumbers putty into a long roll, about the thickness of a pencil. Place the putty on the sink in the shape of the new faucet.
- Place the new faucet on the putty and press down to seal the faucet to the sink
- Replace the plastic nuts under the sink that came with the new faucet
- Place the new plastic flexible water lines back on and do not over tighten
- Remove any excess putty
- Unscrew the aerator and open both spigots before turning the water back on. Any debris will then be released before you put the aerators back on
